Tuesday I posted some benefits of a Dumbbell. Tomorrow we have lots of work with a kettlebell. Most of the DB benefits also apply to a kettlebell. It’s a free weight, so you have to engage more core and more overall muscle to maintain stability. It encourages a combination of upper and lower body, simultaneous strength building. It really just depends on the movement you are using it for, that determines which is best.
A kettlebell isn’t ‘balanced weight’, since it is distributed through an oddly shaped handle, hence why swinging (pendulum) movements are good to do with a KB. Your body will have to work harder for the same stability you can get with a balanced dumbbell. A Kettlebell is also particular to the scapula. Moving a kettlebell efficiently can help with the stability of those muscles, which helps with your posture.
So pick your poison 🙂 both have benefits and both will improve your overall strength, when using proper technique.
