When my younger daughter was born, she went through a lot and so did my family. When she was about 6 weeks old, I ended up in the hospital, with anxiety, not recognizing that's what it was. My body had been through too much. As I was learning to deal with being a new mom for the 2nd time, living with special needs, and now anxiety, I was trying to find ways to help me function day to day. As I researched anxiety and how to manage it, exercise was one of the top recommendations. I still worked out, being a former athlete, but I was struggling to reach my personal physical goals. I was searching for something that would push me beyond my own expectations... something similar to how I felt, growing up in the gym. I needed accountability. Working out alone, it was easy to not show up, make excuses, work longer, etc. I found Crossfit of Fremont and started attending three days per week. I struggled. I was strong, but not in shape. My cardiovascular endurance was extremely weak and every day was TOUGH. I kept coming and made it a habit. Then my habit became my social life. I met friends and the habit became something I couldn't wait to get to. I learned how to move a barbell, lift weights and reach goals. I focused more on nutrition, as I got older. Now I start my day with a 6am Crossfit class, daily and my day isn't right without it. My anxiety rarely flares up and when it does, it's more manageable than it used to be. I feel like I am in better shape than my collegiate gymnastics days and I'm 20 years older than I was back then.
Motivation & Passion
My purpose for coaching is that I love seeing results for hard work. I believe strong desire, combined with max effort are keys to reaching goals. If a coach believes in an athlete and an athlete can believe in him/herself, they will make achievements beyond their own expectations and build a strong personal relationship, as well. I have a passion for helping athletes exceed their own expectations, no matter the starting point.
I am also passionate about helping to build solid gymnastics technique to the sport of Crossfit. It is just as important as proper technique in weightlifting.
